Going through our combined DVD and CD libraries, we've found many live albums and recordings use the 'Live in' title format. The particular structure gives a few options for creating call numbers, going along the 'live music' route or attempting something far more convoluted.
Starting with the Gossip album 'Live in Liverpool', we've used the following approach for live albums and recordings, treating 'live' as 'to live somewhere' rather than a performance. It's not perfectly constructed, but does provide an alternative to more CDs residing in the 780s:
Live in Liverpool: 659.11303384791942753 2008
659.113 = Advertising campaigns
0 = separator
338.47 = Goods and services
91 = Tourist industry
942753 = City of Liverpool
Thus, using the same method, the Elvis Costello and the Imposters live DVD 'Live in Memphis' would be:
659.11303384791976819
where [9]76819 designates a geographical treatment for Shelby County (where Memphis is located) in Tennessee.
A touch long, perhaps, but a different approach to live albums that, amongst other things, hopefully helps to reduce the already crowded shelves of the 780s...
